Ahmed Iman Ali was a prominent Al-Shabaab commander and ideologue who oversaw a recruitment and operational network throughout Kenya and Somalia. Ali is said to have moved to Somalia in 2009 before taking charge of Al-Shabaab’s operations against Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) such as the attack on Kenyan AMISOM troops in El Adde in January 2016. Ali also served as a fundraiser, using his network of mosques to collect funds for Al-Shabaab while also serving as a chief propagandist targeting a Kenyan audience.

Ali was killed in a U.S airstrike in March 2017 in Bu’ale, Middle Juba.
